Operations Volunteers

We hope the moon hasn’t eclipsed your plans for checking in with the greenhouse this week. There is always plenty going on to keep you busy. But first, a reminder to our super helpful volunteers!

Watering Crew: Please remember to sign the book when you have been in to water the plants. We want to make sure that we aren’t over-watering our veggies, so it’s much easier to keep track when everyone lets us know they’ve been in to water. Thanks for all you do to keep the greenhouse growing!

ThursdayΒ (5:15 PM) and SaturdayΒ (1 PM) Open Houses:Β Lots to do, including weeding, watering, and seeding. Come and sample the fresh produce from our harvests!

RESCHEDULED Sprouting Workshop:Β Join Josh on Thursday at 5:15 PM to learn how to grow your own sprouts at home. If you’d like to take a sprouting kit home, be sure to bring a large jar, and a rubber band that will snugly fit around the mouth of the jar. We recommend a pickle jar, or a larger mason jar.

Don’t forget…our regularly scheduled open house will be starting at 5:15 PM today!

This will be followed up with another open house on Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM.

We’d also like to give a shout out to a community effort to clean up the area of town from the dump to the causeway. This cleanup will be happening Sunday at 1 PM, with sponsorship by Baffin Building Supplies, Tim Hortons, and the GN Department of Environment. All are welcome to come out and pitch in. Gloves, dust masks, and garbage bags will be supplied. Be sure to wear proper footwear.

Want to get a little warmth out of that crazy wind? Come on by the Greenhouse for some greens and fun! We will be watering, weeding, and HARVESTING! Produce is free so come on by for a nibble!

Are you looking for an opportunity to volunteer at the greenhouse?

We need people to water the growing vegetables, which need daily watering. One watering shift will take around 30 minutes. Β If you can commit to one day a week, that would be fantastic! If you can commit to one day a month, that’s great too!

We need volunteers Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

If you would like to help out, please get in touch with us byΒ email or through our Facebook page.

You’ve asked for it. And now we’re answering. Trivia Nights are back!

Starting on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 PM, come down to the Storehouse Bar & Grill for another great night of fun, food, drinks, and trivia! You’ll have a great time and be supporting an amazing local cause.

We’re still looking for volunteers to help. Contact us if you’d like to volunteer with either creating our fabulous question bank, or to assist on trivia nights.

See you there!

Happy New Year! Welcome to 2017! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break.

With the start of a new year, we are getting back in gear to start up trivia nights again. But we need your help.

We’re looking for some help for both trivia preparation, and to assist with volunteering on trivia nights. The only stipulation is that you would not be able to play trivia. Some tasks we need help with include question creation, collection of entry fees or 50/50 sales, and tallying of trivia round results.

Think you have the trivia chops? Contact us by email or send us a message at our Facebook page. We look forward to having you join our Trivia Night Team.

Stay tuned for our winter 2017 Trivia Night schedule…it’s coming soon!

The weekend is coming and that means we need your help! Come on out this Saturday from 11 AM to 1 PM to help us clear out the rest of the soil and start breaking down the wooden grow beds.

Sign up at our Facebook event page.

You’ve been asking and now we’re answering. We need volunteers!

The Iqaluit Community Greenhouse will be opening up on Saturday, May 21 from 11 AM to 1 PM for our first work party of the year. In order to clear the soil from the greenhouse to prepare for interior repairs, we need to make some room in our seacan to store it.

We’ll also be looking to distribute items that we have in the seacan to prevent them from going to the landfill. There may be some growing-related items you need to start your own garden at home, so come out and see what we have!

Let us know you’ll be coming out by signing up at our Facebook event page! See you Saturday!
