The greenhouse is growing so much that we will be holding a bonus harvest tomorrow evening at 5:30 PM.  Stop by to harvest some wonderful produce and then come out to trivia night at the Kickin’ Caribou Pub for 7 PM.  If you are unable to make the harvest, but would like us to put your share aside, please contact us to let us know!

Never visited the greenhouse?  Now’s a great time to check us out! During the upcoming work party on Sunday, we will also be holding a bake sale and barbecue.  Rain or shine, we will be at the greenhouse, grilling up burgers and selling some freshly baked items.  If you would like to donate baked goods to the sale, please ensure that you bring them to the greenhouse by 10:45 AM.  Bring your appetites!

Bake Sale-BBQ August 17

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for our regularly scheduled work party and harvest.  We start at 11 AM!

Keep an eye out for updates on the next harvest – we’re planning a barbecue and bake sale to coincide.

WinterIsComing

*shaking fist at Mother Nature*

Our second attempt at washing cars in Iqaluit has been cancelled, but instead of cold temperatures and wind, today it’s rain.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who answered the call.  Stay tuned for updates for next weekend.  We will be starting our regularly scheduled work party rotation next Sunday and we are still looking for ways to raise money.  I smell a barbecue!

It’s going to be an exciting and fun-filled greenhouse weekend!

Saturday, June 14 – come out to the greenhouse between 11 AM and 1 PM.  Let’s get the season started.  We have soil. We have water. And now, we have seeds. We’re ready to get things moving and will be planting until we can’t plant anymore. Still not a member? Sign up online right now!

Sunday, June 15 – still need a gift for your father that will be useful and help a local organization? We are holding a car wash and barbecue fundraiser at the fire hall between 10 AM and 2 PM. Our first attempt at a car wash this year was postponed due to low temperatures, so get on your dancing shoes and start your anti-rain dance for the day.

We still need volunteers for the car wash and barbecue.  Can you help? Sign up here! Every minute you can help counts.

Due to temperatures hovering just below freezing, the ICGS has decided to cancel today’s car wash.  Please keep an eye on the website for more information, as we are hoping to hold another on Father’s Day weekend in June.

Instead, we will be inviting new members and anyone interested in having a look at the greenhouse and learning about our organization to come out from 11 AM to 12 PM.  Several members of the Board will be there doing some prep work, beginning to clean up the grounds and if we can get our barbecue going, cooking up some burgers.  We can answer your questions, take your membership applications and let you know how you can help.

Come check us out!

Don’t forget…the ICGS is holding a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, May 17 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Iqaluit Firehall.  That’s tomorrow!

We are still looking for volunteers to help with washing cars and barbecuing.  If you can donate a couple of hours, please let us know.

As the weather is still iffy in terms of temperature, this event may need to be postponed at the last minute.  The ICGS Board will be making the decision in the morning and will post to the website, Facebook and Twitter by 9:30 AM if we will need to postpone.  Keep your fingers crossed that temperatures reach above freezing!

CarWash-May17

The ICGS will be hosting a barbecue and car wash on Saturday, May 17 from 10 AM until 2 PM and we need your help!  Help us spread some greenhouse love by making some of Iqaluit’s dirtiest cars clean and shiny.  If you can volunteer for the whole time or even just an hour or two, we would love to see you out there.  Email the ICGS to confirm your participation.

Come help us put the greenhouse to rest for the winter.  It’s been a great season and we want to thank all the awesome members for their enthusiasm, great ideas, and hard work.

This Saturday from 11 AM – 1 PM, we will be meeting for our last clean-up, harvest, and FREE barbecue!  We will be serving potato salad made with our very own potatoes!  See you at 11!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be postponing the bake sale and barbecue scheduled for Saturday until Sunday, September 8 (tentative).  We apologize for any inconvenience.  If you have already baked items to donate and would still like to donate them, we are looking at the option of donating via the Iqaluit Sell/Swap Facebook group.

Please be advised that the work party/harvest is still scheduled for Saturday, but it will occur at 12 PM.

We’re looking for a few good bakers.  This Saturday, August 31 from 11 AM to 1 PM, the ICGS will be holding an end of the season bake sale and barbecue.  If you can donate some baked goods to the cause, please arrive by 10:30 AM so that we may price your items for sale.

This will coincide with a work party/harvest.  If you are in Iqaluit and haven’t seen the greenhouse before, come on down and check us out!  We’ll be harvesting potatoes, lettuce, spinach, kale, daikon radish and more.  Come and see how we grow food in the arctic.

For now, check out our August 23rd harvest pictures!
